Maldives Islands Tours India

MALDIVES is a group of coral islands scattered across the equator in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The gem like islands depict the rare vision of a tropical paradise. The palm-fringed islands with sparkling white beaches, turquoise lagoons, clear warm waters and coral reefs teeming with abundant varieties of marine flora and fauna, continue to fascinate visitors, as it has fascinated others in the past, for thousands of years. Marco Polo referred to the Maldives as the 'Flower of the Indies" and Ibn Batuta called her in his chronicles as "One of the Wonders of the World".

The Sun, the Sand and the Sea. These are just the three simple realities beckoning tourists from far and wide to these little islets, giving as a result, a glorious sense of happiness and proving to be a heavenly getaway from the world and its worries. No wonder then that tourists flock in large numbers to the 70-odd self-contained island resorts provided with all the comforts and warmth exuded by traditional Maldivian hospitality.

Measuring 820 Kilometres north to south and 120 Kilometres east to west at its greatest width, the closest neighbours are India and Sri Lanka. Comprising of 1190 coral islands of which only 202 are inhibited. Each island is surrounded by a shallow lagoon which is enclosed by a coral reef providing protection from the hazards of the sea. Hundreds of these islands along with other coral growth form an atoll. The islands are very small and low-lying with many being no more than two meters above sea level. Common features are tall coconut palms, white sandy beaches and crystal clear lagoons. There are no hills, mountains or rivers in the Maldives.

Sparkling white sun-kissed beaches; crystal-clear lagoons studded with profusely-colored corals; azure warm seas with an undisturbed, exotic marine life; palm-fringed islands; the pervading serenity; all of it summarized by the famous Moroccan traveler Ibn Battuta on describing Maldives as "One of the wonders of the world". Maldivian archipelago located 300 miles southwest of the southern tip of India and 450 miles west of Sri Lanka is a beautiful string of 1,190 low-lying coral islands scattered across the equator in the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean, giving us a rare glimpse of what is aptly described as a tropical paradise.

Best Time To Visit

Generally, the year is divided into two monsoon periods: the northeast monsoon or Iruvai lasts from December to March, which are the drier months; the southwest monsoon or Hulhangu lasts from April to November, which are wetter, with more storms and occasional strong winds. Daytime temperatures are about 28°C throughout the year. The humidity is slightly lower in the dry season but on most days, there is a cool sea breeze.

Major attractions

Malé (The Capital City) : Male', the capital of the Maldives, is a small, picturesque, and heavily populated city which is about 2km (1.2mi) long and 1km (0.62mi) wide. It is the commercial center, seat of government and the seat of many important historical and religious landmarks. It has been known as the Sultan's Island in the past.
Male’, known as ‘the Sultan's Island’ in the past, has no beaches and instead the seawalls surround it on all the sides. However, a newly landscaped artificial beach area and adjoining breakwater stretching all the way round to the harbour in the southwest of the island provide a pleasant jogging route.

The Grand Friday Mosque : Masjid-al-Sultan Mohammed Thakurufaanu-al-A "z" zam is the biggest mosque in the Maldives. It also includes the Islamic Center. This Grand Mosque with its dominant golden dome ornates the city.

The Old Friday Mosque :with its unique minaret and the tombs of national heroes and members of royalty presents the visitor a glimpse of the past. The art in the mosque and royal burial grounds are unique and invaluable.

Resorts : The tourists to the fantastic country of Maldives stay at either of the 70-plus resort islands. Most resorts are situated in the three atolls closest to the capital - North Malé Atoll, South Malé Atoll and Ari Atoll. Despite their apparent similarity, however, they differ considerably.
All the resorts are beautiful and are blessed with white sand, blue sea and swaying palm trees, and they all promise great diving. Though similar in many respects these resorts are unique in terms of their comfort, cuisine, clientele, character and their suitability for various excursions and activities.
Various resorts in the country are Angsana Resort & Spa maldives Ihuru, Four Seasons Resorts at Kuda Huroa, Global Spa resort and Global Day Spa.

Seenu (Addu Atoll) : This is the 'second city' of the Maldives, and the resort here is the best base from one can visit the traditional Maldivian island communities. The Addu people are fiercely independent, speak differently from folk in the capital and at one time even tried to secede from the republic.
Tourist development in Addu has been slow to start, but a resort has been established in the old RAF buildings on Gan. Gan is linked by causeways to the adjacent islands, and it's easy to get around them by bicycle, giving unmatched opportunities to visit the local villages and see village life.
